Caroline Brem

BA(Linguistics), BEd(Adult), MA(Philosophy of Education), MA(Writing)

CarolineCaroline has been an adult educator since she became an adult and, having grown up in a multi-language environment, it is not surprising that she has taught language skills in English and German. Having taught without formal qualifications for many years, she went to university as a mature-age student and over the next 15 years obtained two undergraduate and two post-graduate degrees. Her linguistics degree has a major in second language acquisition and her MAs are in Philosophy of Education and Writing.

Caroline has also had three books and many stories and articles published and has been the Editor of several in-house magazines and newsletters. Her teaching experience ranges from private tuition to university lecturing by way of Community education - about which she is passionate.

About the brain, Caroline's motto is "If you don't use it, you lose it!"

She also believes that many students need to acquire learning skills rather than just information. Learning something new, Caroline says, is like throwing a pebble into a pond: the ripples keep spreading. In the same way, any new learning will affect our way of thinking about the things we already know.

As for 'learning environments', Caroline believes, first, that the student and the teacher need to set learning goals. The student, especially, needs to set some goals for him- or herself in order to use the teacher's reservoir of knowledge to the student's best advantage.

Most of all, Caroline can't imagine life without learning and teaching.
